Flapjack Jam ::: Update 9/21/12

SIX 4 CF

WHO KNEW that just coming out to the Flapjack Jam was going to have so many rewards? THIS year, in addition to the heart-warming feeling you get by doing good, you will also be entered into a LIMITED DRAWING!
That's right, friends! IF you bring SIX guests who have never been TO the the Flapjack Jam before - you will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift certificate to the famed, world-renowned Angus Barn. Guests have to be over 18 - you can't just pick up random kids from the 'hood...and you will need to stop at the ticket booth and let us get a pulse - just kidding, but you do need to stop by and give us their names so we can add them to our list for next year...see how this works :-)
SO - call those old friends you have been dying to see, get the local barista, put some yard signs up - this year is ALL about some outreach...and some fantastic corn-fed beef that only the AB can provide...
Great, Fantastic, Unbelievable News...
After more than two months of oral antibiotics, IV antibiotics, PICC line and additional treatments, SUPER D is PICC-LINE FREE!
Yesterday, the nurse came over and pulled it out (yes, friends, Dylan is keeping it...) and he is living it up! We want to thank everyone for their prayers, for coming to see Dylan at Duke and for being such a big part of our fight to find a cure!
For all that Dylan and his family have had to endure these last 60+ days, let's make this Flapjack Jam the BEST FLAPJACK JAM EVER!
SPONSORS, SPONSORS, SPONSORS!
WOO-HOO! Thanks to our latest sponsors - Howard, Green & Moye, LLP and Metal Tech Inc! they have answered the call - going beyond our wildest dreams...thanks for helping to brighten our first week of soliciting sponsorships!
And, there is plenty of room available if you want to get on board - we have various levels to fit just what you are looking for! Check out our sponsorship levels here to the right, click and pay - we are that easy, folks!
The Auction - the SWAG!
The auction is taking shape, friends! We have a PLETHORA of items up for bidding - vacation houses (doesn't that sleeping porch look de-vine?), dinner on the town, sporting event tickets - really, anything you could image, within reason, of course!
The Flapjack Jam is a mere 10 weeks before Christmas - no pressure, we're just saying that perhaps you would want to take advantage of these FANTASTIC deals and get some holiday shopping done at the same time...
Think about it, not having to go to the mall or wait for that darn UPS truck to get there...food for thought, friends, food for thought...
Until next time, friends!

Flapjack Jam ::: Update 9.18.2012

BIG NEWS!

My oh my...that Amy Cook sure has been busy! Big news over here at the HQ...wait for it...

We are in the process of becoming our very own non-profit organization! The Super Dylan Nation.  I feel so empowered to do good in the world, don't you? It's all about flexibility, our official Certified Public Accountant (AKA Amy) says. I LOVE FLEXIBILITY...who doesn't? By becoming our own non-profit, we are able to add more events without adding a lot of overhead time! Yeah, it's all about efficiency...Amy says.

So, what that means for this year, is that instead of having payments go through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, they will go directly through us...which is good news for anyone caught in the auction payment line last year! You will enjoy the same tax deductions as you have in the past - we are all about some customer service over here, friends. Look for our new sponsorship information and our new payment options. This is the start of something BIG, I feel it!

CHECK US OUT - WE ARE STARS!

Last year's censorship did not deter her...this year our Head of the Audio Visual Department (AKA Mandy) is at it again! Check out our new video! Share it with friends, post it to your social media accounts - get it OUT THERE! The more folks see Cystic Fibrosis up close, the more they will know if sucks...we are still working on NOT using that word, really we are...

TICKETS & T-SHIRTS GET 'EM NOW!

Our tickets and t-shirts are available for purchase now - simply select your order on the website and pay through paypal! We are so super-excited about all the technology we have at our fingertips - my leg is just tingling!

So, this year the t-shirt is a GILDAN "old gold" - really kind of a brown, perfect for fall! We will have sizes from kids to adults - t-shirts are $10 pre-ordered and $15 at the door (while those supplies last) - add $2 for extended sizes 2X and up.

Until next time, friends!

Flapjack Jam - Get Ready Now!

Hello Flapjack Friends!

It's hard to believe it's time for the THIRD ANNUAL FLAPJACK JAM! Can you believe it? Seems like only yesterday we were flapping jacks, cakewalking and talking to the po-po about noise ordinances! Time sure does fly and it's no different over here at the HQ! Though, this year we have had time to reflect, ponder and come to some conclusions.

A few observations from the past year...kids grow up fast. Life is short. The bus is never on time when you are in a hurry. It's really hard to work when the pool is open. There are SO MANY reasons to prefer Michael Phelps over Ryan Lochte. And...cystic fibrosis sucks. I hate to use that word, I try to tell my kids to find another word, because surely we can. We are educated people, truly we are. So, we go with that - cystic fibrosis is unfortunate. It's tragic. It's miserable. It's sad. It's unlucky. It's bad...but, really, I think sucks is the best word. I hate that it's the best word, but I think it is. I want it to be something else, but it's not. Sucks. That's the word.

And, what's even worse than it sucks is that it totally surprises you too. Lulls you into thinking that it's not so terrible, then takes you completely off guard - like a kick in the gut. I have always known Dylan, and I have always known that he has cystic fibrosis, so I am not sure why when he was hospitalized for two weeks in July, I was so completely taken off guard. Maybe because he has always been so healthy - after all it had been five years since he had to be admitted to Duke. Maybe it's because he's so active - makes me tired to look at him! Maybe it's because Jeff and Nicole treat him the same way they treat Steven. Maybe it's because he chooses not to be defined by his illness. That must be it - I think we will go with that one!

Sometimes, driving home from seeing Nicole and Dylan in the hospital, or watching Jeff with Steven and Allyson, I would think if they can fight that hard, then surely we can too. That if they can have faith to move a mountain, then surely we can too. That if they refuse to let cystic fibrosis steal their lives, then surely we can too.

We CAN do so much. We CAN help so much. We CAN be so much...together. Let's make the 2012 Flapjack Jam the BEST FLAPJACK JAM EVER!

Save the date...it's coming...Saturday, October 13 at the Lakemont Club...details soon...will try NOT to use the word suck.

We are looking forward to seeing you all!

SAVE THE DATE!!

The kids are off to school, restaurants are highlighting tailgate specials and homes are displaying their "House Divided," football flags.  It all adds up to one important thing...

It's Time To Get Your JAM On!!

The Flapjack Jam to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is back! Mark your calendars for October 13, 2012.

Once again expect fantastic raffle and silent auction prizes, fantastic live music and, of course the best flapjack dinner this side of the Mississippi!

Please keep checking this page as we'll be updating often with band, prize and event information!

This year was a rough year for Super Dylan, with a two week trip to the hospital and lots of medicine added to his daily routine.  But it was a big year for the fight for a cure too!

In January, Kalydeco was approved by the FDA to treat an underlying cause of CF! It has already improved the lives of patients (including a second cousin of Mandy's who was taken off of a lung transplant list because his health has improved so vastly!!)

This specific form of Kalydeco does not treat Dylan's version of CF. But a version of the drug that is suited for him is currently at stage 3 of trials.

THE MONEY YOU'VE DONATED HAD BROUGHT THE RESEARCH THIS FAR!!!

And the money from Flapjack Jam and similar fundraisers all over will go toward making more and brighter tomorrows for CF patients all over the world!!

There is No Time to Waste!! Let's do our part!!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Can't wait to see you at the JAM!!
