FLAPJACK JAM 2011 - THE WRAP!

ABSOLUTELY A-MAZING!! Thanks to all of you for your generosity - the Second Annual Flapjack Jam raised - wait for it...$10,725!

Who knew that we would not only meet, but exceed our $10,000 goal! We stand in awe of YOU - our friends, family and neighbors! Whether you drove grade stakes into bales of straw, walked a million miles for one of those cakes, flapped jacks, bought an auction item, played blissful music or simply passed along a kind word for the FJJ, our hearts are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love for Dylan and CF'ers around the United States.

A few noteworthy highlights from the Jam...

Dylan got to meet Scotty McCreery! Finally! Dyl, Ellie and Nicole went to Garner Saturday morning to meet Scotty's mom to pick up the concert tickets (yeah, FJJ!) and low and behold Scotty was filming his music video that day, right there at Garner High School! Who knew?
Well, Super D got the big introduction and even, get this, got to see Scotty's new tour bus that was previously owned by Kenny Chesney...not too bad, huh? We asked Dylan if he rolled around in Kenny's bed, but he said no...Maybe next year.

Raleigh's finest paid us a visit...

To be honest, this is not the first time the police have come to see me, and Mandy did get that cease and desist letter, but seriously? At a fundraiser for CF? Note to self for next year: investigate noise permit, even though you think - gee, it's a Saturday in the middle of the afternoon on private property in the middle of a neighborhood that is totally rallying around the event...

The good news? He did not take us away and he posed for photos...the bad news, he was TOTALLY wearing Kevlar so he must be familiar with the recent "situations" in the hood! Special thanks to Uncle Alan for pointing me out to him...

The best thing? Scotty generously donated 100 tickets to the Flapjack Jam! The Smith Family was able to share those tickets with all of YOU! We had a great time at Scotty's concert last Saturday and Nicole, Dylan and Steven got to go back stage - FOR REAL! It's like Scotty is one of the family now, they are seeing him so much!

You're a good man, Scotty McCreery - I have now downloaded your first album! And, please tell Brad we said hello!

So, that was the Flapjack Jam of 2011! We had a fantastic time - the kitchen ran smoothly - though the management sure is picky about quality control - the crowds were well controlled - and folks just looked like they were giddy. We think giddy is good, don't you?

We do have a few gold t-shirts leftover...adult extra larges. We will sell those for half-price at $5 per shirt. We also have some 2T (very, very small) for the younger set...those are free because...we love kids and had no idea that a 2T could be that small. If you would like a t-shirt, please email Becky.
In closing, thanks for making the FJJ2 such a huge success! You may think that the small things you do go unnoticed, but the truth is, they don't. We heard every kind word you said, felt every prayer you prayed and noticed that you cared enough to spend some of your time, talent and treasure to make Dylan's life, and other CF'ers, a little easier.

We are so blessed to know each of you and are looking forward to planning FJJ3 for 2012...

Did You HEAR?

TWO DAYS AND COUNTING! We are so, so ready here at the Super Dylan HQ!

Where to start...my, oh, my!

Perhaps you read about our good news...you should REALLY, TRULY, MAKE SURE you are at the Flapjack Jam on Saturday...you just never know what might happen...

Our 2011 Silent Auction Sneak Peek Catalog is ready for viewing! A small sampling of the cornucopia of merchandise we have to offer, really. But, we thought you would want to get by the bank and get those big bills out. We are taking it ALL again this year - credit cards, checks, cash...no bartering though (sshh - we have a real CER - TI - FIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT on staff at the HQ now)! BRING IT!

Remember, all the money raised will go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation so it’s really a win/win for everyone! You get something cool, the foundation gets some cash – it’s all good!

If you have already purchased your tickets, then we thank you for your support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. If you have not yet purchased tickets, we would love to have you! It is sure to be a fun time! If you need tickets, simply email Amy (AMY, not ART - I swear!)

T-shirt quantities are limited, so if you want one, you better get one quick. Email Becky to see if we can accommodate your needs!

Thanks to all those who have donated items – we love you and are singing your praises from the rooftops, because honestly, YOU ROCK!

A few event details to pass on:

Bring a chair or a blanket! If you don’t, you may be on the grass, which isn't so bad, but a chair would be much better!

We will also be raffling the whole time – what’s a fundraiser with no raffle? All kinds of good stuff – raffle tickets will be $1...

If you live in the Lakemont ‘hood, we are asking you to walk, skateboard, bike, kayak or use any other method of transportation other than a car! We have sold many, many tickets and we want to ensure we have ample parking for our “other” friends. Besides, exercise is good and it helps the earth...

If you are driving, directions to the Lakemont Club are as follows:

From Downtown: Take Six Forks Road North. Take a right onto Rowan Street. Take a left onto Lakemont. Take a right onto Pinecroft. Take a right onto Latimer. Take a right onto Harvard. The club is located at the end of Harvard at 409 Harvard Street.

From North Raleigh: Take Six Forks Road South. Take a left onto Rowan Street. Take a left onto Lakemont. Take a right onto Pinecroft. Take a right onto Latimer. Take a right onto Harvard. The club is located at the end of Harvard at 409 Harvard Street.

We will be parking at the club parking lot, directly behind the pool in the grass, at the easement entrance at Pinecroft and at the side entrance on Little Falls.

Our staff meteorologist has predicted an absolutely perfect autumn day for the Flapjack Jam, so we fully expect to be rocking the house at 3:00pm.

On behalf of the Super Dylan Nation and the Smith Family, we wanted to thank each of you for supporting the Flapjack Jam! Whether you pass along an email, "LIKE" the Super Dylan Nation on facebook or simply say a kind word - it all makes a huge difference to us! Every day, every SINGLE day, we are one day closer to a cure. With your help, and support, we are making a difference, not just in Dylan's life, but in the lives of the 29,999 other CF'ers in the United States.

Lest you think we CANNOT make a difference, we have convinced the head of NBC Universal's copyright infringement division to approve the official video, made friends with a future CMA winner and gotten some serious SWAG for the auction! Yeah, not bad for some "housewives from midtown!"
THIS IS IT - the Flapjack Jam is ON!

Why do I go to the Great Strides Page when I try to buy tickets or sponsorships?

Great Question!!

Just a little explanation... Because our mission is to give every penny we raise to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, we felt there, for now, was little need for a middle man (make the check out to Mandy, who will in turn give it to CF).

By creating a 'walker' for Great Strides named "Flapjack Jam" we are able to get all the money in an easy way to CFF while also keeping track of how much money we raise as an event.

This also allows you to:

  • Pay on their secure web site using a credit card.  You can pay for tickets, silent auction items, sponsorships and also simply donate right on the site.

  • Easily deduct contributions from your taxes.

  • And share the link with friends and family that may not be able to come to the event, but still want to contribute.

For more information on tickets, contact Amy.

Visit here and donate or sponsor today!! (Remember, Friend of Dylan $50 Sponsorships gets you two of your tickets and goes a long way in helping us reach our $10,000 goal!)

Deadlines are FAST approaching!

The t-shirts are in design - WOO HOO are we excited!  This is kinda how they will look...two color imprint on the back and a two color imprint on the front...gold color...these are available in sizes starting at kids 2-4 and going to an adult 3X. The cost of the tshirts is $10, and if you need an extended size (2X and up, please add $1 for a 2X and $2 for a 3X).

The deadline to preorder a tshirt is Wednesday, September 21! Quantities are limited so ORDER YOURS NOW!  Email Becky to get yours so you can be the coolest kid in town.

To get tickets, please email Amy!  Tickets get you entry into the fun-fest!  Prices are $6 for adults, $4 for kids 5-12 and kids under 4 eat free!

Also, if you are interested in the $250 and up sponsorships, you must get your sponsor information turned in by Wednesday, September 21 to get on the shirt! Email Mandy if you are interested.

More later...

T-shirts, sponsorships, magnets - OH MY

The official 2011 Flapjack Jam t-shirt design is complete - but, wait for it...will not be revealed until September 30.  That's right - top secret. Fort Knox. It's very exciting over here at the Super Dylan Nation HQ!

T-shirts are $10 and we would LOVE to preorder one just for you, so you can be the MOST stylish at the Jam!  Email Becky if you want to pre-order - kids sizes through adult, get 'em while they are hot!

We have had some requests for blog buttons - how cool are we? We will get a blog button designed so you can add it to your blog if you so desire - after all, what's a  blog without a FJJ blog button?  Email Becky if you want a button designed...

Super Dylan Nation magnets are available! Show your SDN pride with this colorful magnet that will have those drivers behind you wondering who in the WORLD is Super Dylan?  Personally, I have seen dozens on the streets of Raleigh already and it warms my heart each and every time! Get one during the Jam...you HAVE to have one!

So, also you may have noticed that we changed the time. Not exactly sure of what we were thinking - five hours of flapjacking? We would be exhausted - so, we are going from 3:00 - 7:00pm, with dinner pancakes being served from 3:00 - 6:00pm.

That's it for today, rest assured we are working hard over here!

Tickets and Media Information is READY!

Woo hoo! The Flapjack Jam is rolling! Check out the handy flyer with cool colors! If you would like to get some to put around the 'hood, just ask and we would be oh-so happy to oblige!  Email Becky to get yours today!

Tickets are ready to be purchased - we have operators standing by to take your order as we type! Okay, not really operators...but you can email our head money-taker, Amy and ask her to email you your tickets.

And, on personal note, I (Becky) wanted to share this blog with you all: http://www.cfhusband.blogspot.com/. I saw these folks at the CF Education Day at Duke and their story made me cry right there! Thankfully, no one saw 'cause we were sitting in the front row, but it was totally moving and very eye-opening to hear their story. I think I embarrassed Nicole but at least I didn't blow snot everywhere!

They have a huge faith and hearing about how they have dealt with Tricia's disease through the birth of their daughter has been inspirational. Check it out, but totally have some tissues on stand by.

Last thing! If you want to pre-order a tshirt, email Becky and we will set you up!

Third, the Silent Auction is shaping up to be A-Mazing!! Some of the favorites from last year are back! Would you like a getaway at the beach or the mountains? We've got both! Also, is golf or tennis your game? Again, we've got both!!  And, if you'd like to be a part of the silent auction, we'd love to have you!!

Keep checking back for silent auction updates... getting a getaway for a good cause... really, is there anything better?

Banned, but not defeated!!

My my my, it was a busy week for our little video...

footage taken on Wednesday, edited on Thursday and posted on Friday.

You were all so kind in your words and generous to share the video along that there were 450 views by Sunday!!

Two days, 450 views! And at least two reports of the link being sent to Scotty's family, though we don't know if they had a chance to view it before...

Sunday evening when we were shut down by 'the man.' UMG corporate did not appreciate our using their music without permission...

Fair enough, who knew SuperDylan and the quest for Scotty would be such a sensation? I never even thought about asking permission to use a song in a video I thought only a handful of people would see!

So... after some conversations with lawyers in LA, and a warning on my YouTube account it is time to move upward and onward.

That's right, a few legal challenges won't stop us in our quest for the best Flapjack Jam ever! We are not giving up on Scotty yet!!
Watch out for a new video... perhaps with an original song written just for the occasion!!

In other news... YOU CAN HELP!!!

This week we are focusing on sponsors and silent auction items!!
Would you love for your business to be featured
on the coolest T-Shirt in town?
What silent auction item would make you bid
past your spouse's comfort zone? Let us know!!

WE WANT SCOTTY!!!

So it all started innocently enough... three friends visiting while their kids played.

And as for many moms, our conversation trended toward the most pressing issue of our time... reality TV.

"Are you watching American Idol?"
"We are! We've been voting for Scotty!"
"Did you know that Nicole taught Kindergarten in the class next to him?"
"I didn't!! Now I will vote for him even more!"
"Yes, Dylan is a huge fan... he even wondered if Scotty would be willing to play at the next Flapjack Jam..."

at first, it was just in passing... but as time went on and we witnessed Scotty, a high school baseball star, a former PE student of another friend of ours, a kid with an impossible goal... we watched as his dream came true and we thought, why not?

Why not dream big?   What's the harm in asking anyway?

So here is us asking Scotty to be at our Flapjack Jam... Enjoy!!

Scotty, Come to the Flapjack Jam! Video

Rooted in Friendship

Team SuperDylan at the 2011 Great Strides Walk
That is the answer I give when asked how the Flapjack Jam was started; it is rooted in friendship. Neighbors met, started a bunco group, swapped mothering stories and baby gear and became a community. They went to the same preschools, churches and parks. They delighted in each other's joy, comforted each other's sadness and cooked months worth of food for any occasion that seemed to warrant a casserole.

This community, joined by an ever growing population of friends and family that love Dylan, is part of the 'SuperDylan Nation.'

We started the Flapjack Jam to celebrate life with our friends. We started it to create something positive from our strength. But most of all we started it to stand arm in arm with our close friend in the fight against the disease that threatens her son's life.

And the year that the cure is found, SuperDylan Nation will raise a glass to one another and to all the similar communities that have formed around the country. That year we will know that we helped thousands of children and parents  forever breathe easier with the threat of CF behind them.

And on that year, the Flapjack Jam will be free for all!!
Join us! All proceeds from this car magnet goes to CFF!

Two acts confirmed!

We are excited to announce that two of the musical acts that made the Flapjack Jam such a memorable event last year have agreed to come back and play for us again this year!

Comprised of five guys with day jobs and very understanding families, John's Neighbors will bring an original mix of jazz, rock and funk to our hills.

Also, Whit Woodhaus will be back with his soulful acoustic set.

We are incredibly grateful to our wonderful musicians as they volunteer their time and talent.  In keeping with good CFF tradition, we want every penny you give to us, to go straight to finding a cure!

Thanks for checking in, get ready to JAM ON!!!

The Date is Set!!

Welcome to the official site for the
Annual Flapjack Jam for Cystic Fibrosis.

Last year hundreds of neighbors and friends gathered at the beautiful Lakemont Pool and Tennis club to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on behalf of our own SuperDylan.

Though the event was a little rainy, through amazing efforts by volunteers and extremely generous donations from local businesses, we were able to raise over $5000 last year. This year, on October 1st, 2011 we are aiming to double it!

That's right, our goal this year is $10,000.   To get there, we are going to need your help!

Please continue to visit us as we will be continually updating this site with fantastic information including: band names, silent auction items, sponsors (who we encourage you to visit and send along our thanks!) and event updates!

Be one of the first to be a follower, or share us on Facebook!
